1st day: You will be picked up and we will drive
you until La Mucuy located in Sierra Nevada National Park. At 2000
meter high we will start the hike, and walk up to 5 hours, through
tropical forest, going over to cloud forest, bamboo forest and finally
reach the green transparent clear Laguna Coromoto at the exit of the
woods at about 3100 meter high. We will do here our first Camping.
2nd day: Today we will hike from Laguna Coromoto
over the Páramo, where we will find a nice forest and an awesome
Páramo vegetation with Frailejones (Espiletia)at sight. We will
have to climb immense Stones that broke out of mountains during the ice
age. We camp somewhere close to Laguna Verde. Snow-white Humboldt
thrones close at sight.
3rd day: After Breakfast we hike to the deep
green transparent clear Laguna El Suero in which the 4942 meter high
venezuela´s second largest Glacier reflects itself. During the
next 2 hours we will enjoy an amazing view of the Sierra Nevada valley
over the foggy forest. Once we are at the Laguna Timoncito we´ll
set our camp there. We will do some hike but also climbing until the
Icebergs feet’s, once we are there, the use of ropes, climbing
iron, ice axe come in action to penetrate the eternal ice and in takes
about 30 minutes to cross the Iceberg and reach the Humbolt Peak. As a
reward for the effort and the achievement we will catch an amazing view
over the white Anden Peak. After that we will start going down and hike
back til the camp at the Laguna Verde.
4th day: Today we leave Laguna Timoncito and use
our belts, ropes, and helmet, with the help of our professional guide
we start the 4 hours climbing to reach Venezuela’s roof, the Peak
of the Pico Bolivar. During the rain season you would also need for the
climbing Ice picks and crampons. Once on the top if the sky is clear
one can have a particular view of Maracaibo´s Lake on the Zulia
plains, and at the south watch the steeped Llanos. The climbing and the
View are just incomparable impressions. Back to the basis camp at the
Laguna Timoncito.
5th Day: After a strong breakfast, we´ll
hike about 7 - 8 hours to the village of los nevados. Here we spend the
night in a basic guesthouse.
6th Day: After breakfast and a short visit of
los nevados we go back to Mérida by a 4 wheel drive car. This
exciting car ride is about 4 hours long.
