Alejandra Mesones moved from Peru to Venezuela to study English, French and German at the well known University of Mérida. Furthermore she lived for several years in Chicago (USA), Freiburg and Cologne (Germany).

While she was studying she worked in different hotels and travel agencies. Since 2004 she guides tourists through the Andes and runs the Posada Casa Vieja together with her husband Joe.


Joe Klaiber was born in Germany where he became a joiner. With this qualification he left to the Canadian outdoors. After he moved to South America he started to work as a tour guide for German operators and tourists all over in Venezuela.


Since 1995 Joe also works with photographers, botanists and ornithologists from different countries as well as with bird lovers as The German Institute for the Bird Research and the WWF.

In 2000 Joe and Alejandra’s first daughter was born and 3 years later they opened the Posada Casa Vieja Merida and then in 2006 the Posada Casa Vieja Altamira.
Kai Putzca has worked as a professional tour guide for years. He is specialized in snakes and anacondas of Los Llanos. From his guided excursions he knows all corners of Venezuela. Since 2005 he works in our Posada Casa Vieja Merida. When you arrive to Posada Casa Vieja  he will receive you. Also he answers all the emails quickly.
